Nothing important except the last bit... [Jul. 12th, 2006|10:55 pm]
Remember when summers were meant to be for vacations, relaxation, etc? Why does it now seem that the school year has taken that position.

On a completely different subject, I have *magical* technology breaking powers! Perhaps the government will pay me money as a walking EMP when confronted with the undeniable evidences like my car and computer...

And finally, because I forgot (I briefly thought of coming up with excuses, but they'd all be lies), congratulations to all of you who graduated about a month and a half ago: Jace, Leah, Kate, Alex...I'll miss you guys, and even if I don't write very often, I'll be reading.

Have a good night, in less rainy places.

Wrapping it up. [May. 9th, 2006|11:11 am]
Yeah. Three days of classes/exams left. Oy. I think the hardest part about this is realizing I probably won't see most of the people on this trip again, ever: They're mostly from the west coast, and even if I make it out there, the west coast is, to put it plainly, big. Quite a bit bigger than Italy. not to mention, if we were to put they're living situation in reference to mine in terms of Europe (with me living in, oh, Italy for example), they would all be in the middle of Russia. Wow.
Yeah, so after thursday night (the last night we're having a get together), I will say goodbye and move on.
Most likely to Rome. And that should be fun.

And the winner is... [Apr. 28th, 2006|02:29 pm]
Okay, first off, everybody who wrote gets free dinner (even you Ina), except my Mom.

Kat, if you could do it that would be great. Lauren (elder) you're already doing room draw for me (thanks again), and I don't want to be too much of a burden.
Life is good.

Help...please... [Apr. 27th, 2006|10:41 am]
To my friends at Bard:

Yeah, so course registration is coming up...I realize it's not pleasant, and so I don't want to ask any one person to have to sacrifice their time to register for me, but if somebody would volunteer to, that would be excellent, and I would really appreciate it. I will even make you dinner (which I have gotten really good at) when I get back.

Please?

Good Friday, good samaritan (yes I know its late). [Apr. 17th, 2006|01:42 pm]
I was a good person on friday: I helped a little old lady across the road (I mean really little. The top of her head was at my elbow). "I'm afraid of the cars" she said. It was really cute.
Later in an an unrelated incident I was muscled out of a small piazza I was studying in by a group of rowdy senior citizens. Jerks.

In other news, I have finished twelve of eighteen pages in Italian. Then I banged my head against a wall for a while.

Passover [Apr. 10th, 2006|02:27 pm]
Happy Passover to all you of the Jewish persuasion...
Things here are going well. I've finished all my presentations, and all thats left is about twenty odd pages to write in Italian. This shouldn't be so bad, however, because I have a week and a half off, starting wednesday.
My original plan was to go to France, speak French, and if not actually chill with French people, at least get sneered at by them. This, unfortunately will have to wait until May. Le sigh.
The weather here (a sure sign that I've run out of interesting things to say when I talk about the weather)is pretty amazing: Think about how it will be, oh, two months from now for you guys in the northeast. Yeah, that's right: sunny.
Been reading many disturbing Italian comic books, like Dylan Dog (an Italian knock off of Hellblazer...sort of). It's amazing what they'll sell on the streets here...

Yeah, I liked this, and so should you. [Mar. 9th, 2006|12:12 pm]
The Bulwer-Lytton Contest This year's 10 winners of the Bulwer-Lytton contest, aka "Dark and Stormy Night
A good friend just sent this do me. Laugh damnit:

Contest" (run by the English Dept. of San Jose State University), wherein one writes only the first line of a bad novel: 10) "As a scientist, Throckmorton knew that if he were ever to break wind in the echo chamber, he would never hear the end of it." 9) "Just beyond the Narrows, the river widens." "With a curvaceous figure that Venus would have envied, a tanned, unblemished oval face framed with lustrous thick brown hair, deep azure-blue eyes fringed with long black lashes, perfect teeth that vied for competition, and a small straight nose, Marilee had a beauty that defied description." 7) "Andre, a simple peasant, had only one thing on his mind as he crept along the East wall: 'Andre creep... Andre creep... Andre creep.'" 6) "Stanislaus Smedley, a man always on the cutting edge of narcissism, was about to give his body and soul to a back alley sex-change surgeon to become the woman he loved." 5) "Although Sarah had an abnormal fear of mice, it did not keep her from eeking out a living at a local pet store." 4) "Stanley looked quite bored and somewhat detached, but then penguins often do." 3) "Like an over-ripe beefsteak tomato rimmed with cottage cheese, the corpulent remains of Santa Claus lay dead on the hotel floor." 2) "Mike Hardware was the kind of private eye who didn't know the meaning of the word 'fear'; a man who could laugh in the face of danger and spit in the eye of death -- in short, a moron with suicidal tendencies." AND THE WINNER IS... 1) "The sun oozed over the horizon, shoved aside darkness, crept along the greensward, and, with sickly fingers, pushed through the castle window, revealing the pillaged princess, hand at throat, crown asunder, gaping in frenzied horror at the sated, sodden amphibian lying beside her, disbelieving the magnitude of the frog's deception, screaming madly, 'You lied!"

Thanks Zara!

Nunc ipsum gaudere tempus est! [Mar. 6th, 2006|03:38 pm]
...Which means in Latin "Now its really time to party!" It was the slogan at the restaurant we went to the other day in San Gemignano.

But first Venice: Venice was amazing. It was way better than the first time I went (which was at night, and with many peoples), and I attribute that to Nina (for those of you who don't know, one of my Professors at Bard on Sabbatical, and a wonderful person; Nina, if you're reading this, thank you again!). Mostly the trip consisted of walking around, and talking about things that would probably only interest me; however: Parade of Hare Krishnas! Oh yeah.

This past weekend was a trip to Tuscany, in which I was briefly shown the comfortable familiarity of Florence once again, and then cruelly torn away after a short five hours (three of which were taken up by a tour). Siena was incredible, and I bought lots of flags there. Oh yes. The rest of the trip was okay: Monteriggione is a walled town of about forty-five people, and all in all better than San Gemignano, a very small town with three torture museums and 3 million tourists (including us). Pisa hadn't changed since the last time I was there. In a fit of homesickness I bought a hamburger, and that was good. I must confess, I don't know what sort of meat the burger was made from.

Some things I need to change... [Mar. 6th, 2006|03:35 pm]
First: I need to check my friends livejournals after two weeks of backlog before sending them emails.

Second: When I meet people, I need a different approach. Lauren, you'll get a kick out of this...I was just talking to one of the girls in the program the other day, and she thought that I hated her. Am I too sarcastic or something? Either way, I need to change something about the way I meet people so that they know me to be the warm and happy person that I like to think I am.

Let me sum up... [Feb. 22nd, 2006|02:06 pm]
This has been, and will be a good week for travelling: I went to a small little town, with a sizeable mountain called Monselice. The mountain is covered in beautiful gardens, churches, and courtyards, unfortunately all closed off from the public until spring. At the top of the mountain, is a ruined monastery or castle, that looks interesting from a distance, and will probably be even more interesting close up. The highest point my friend and I could get to had a small little church, that is quite cosy until you move to the back, where it appears they have stored something along the order of 30 midget skeletons in dress clothes. I thought it was pretty cool, but my friend disagreed.

The next day, my entire program to what would have been an amazing trip to Verona, had it not been raining as hard (to be fair it didn't start raining until the last hour). We walked here, and we walked there, we saw Romeo's house, and saw thousands of tourists feeling up a bronze statue of Juliet (for good luck), and finally we ended up at Verona's version in miniature of the Coloseum (which was wicked cool). Oh yes, and for lunch, not only did I eat horse (by the way Jayce, you were right, and I'm sorry, but it was delicious), but I also had donkey (judge me if you must, you weren't there). All in all, it was a beautiful city.

This upcoming weekend I am planning to go to Venice (very close by), and that should be fun, as Carnivale is happening there.

All is good.

Okay, lo and behold I have reached Italy safe and sound. Ferrara is an amazingly beautiful, if foggy and cold city. The cold is emphasized by the lack of heat in my apartment (which is otherwise the most awesome place ever), but our heat should be fixed tomorrow. I have about three weeks til classes start, and plan to enjoy myself in that time, while catching up on Italian.
By the way, if anyone has contact info for Stavros, send it my way...

Anyway, I hope everybody is doing well and stuff, and whether you want to or not, you'll hear from me soon.

Bye all!

Living in a house [Nov. 20th, 2005|05:17 pm]
The joys of living in a house with other college students, no. 23: Getting up, first thing in the morning, and having to do other peoples dishes just so I can eat something. Yays.

Day Off [Nov. 17th, 2005|11:44 pm]
I took today off, thinking, "Oh joy, with no classes, or work or anything, I shall do all those things I love to do. What felicity! What excitement!"

So anyway, today was really boring. I didn't see anyone, and I stayed in my room doing nothing.

Ooookaaaaay..... [Nov. 16th, 2005|11:56 pm]
Ok, here everything is, all set up and shit....aaaaaaaaannd, I'm sure the magic will start happening any minute now.....

yep....any minute.

So, yeah, as anyone can see, I have 0 (that's zero) friends. The way I'm looking at it from here, its in parentheses (the zero, that is) next to the souless face and blue shirt that represent me.
I know what you may be thinking. You're thinking, 'Why, that must be the lame picture thing they give to those people who are too poor to buy an expensive, shiny LJ.' Well...you're wrong.

If you were to download that little blue shirted, faceless guy, a whole new world of pixelated glory would unfold before you if you were to just magnify in upon its face. Not only (not ONLY!) is the detail exquisite, but the mouth is animated to shape the words 'fuck establishment and shit." He says that because he is edgy.

Yes indeed.
Wicked edgy.
